Caroline’s Gift:
A fund established in the late ‘90’s by a Newtown family in memory of their daughter, Caroline. This fund, administered by NYFS, offers financial support to families who are dealing with a child’s terminal or catastrophic illness. Requests are processed by the Agency and forwarded to the family who make the determination regarding a financial award. Recipients may remain anonymous.
Community Outreach:
NYFS is a passionately inspired team of professionals, parents and volunteers who are dedicated to helping families and children reach their potential. The organization continues to establish outreach and form community alliances through education & expanding existing working relationships with schools & other agencies, such as the Women’s Center of Greater Danbury, Danbury Youth Services, Newtown & Danbury area school systems, the Department of Children and Families, Danbury Hospital, Newtown Visiting Nurse Association & the Newtown Prevention Council. Additional agency programs have been awarded through state grants & partnerships with the Connecticut Council of Family Service Agencies to deliver Welfare to Work services through the Employment Success Program.
Community Collaborations:
The agency meets the United Way of Western Connecticut’s community impact outcomes by collaborating with surrounding area agencies, courts & other state & local social service agencies to increase & insure community wellness. The agency also provides a staff therapist for weekly home visits to elderly clients through Connecticut Community Care Inc.
LIST (Local Implementation Service Team):
NYFS co-facilities with Danbury Youth Services the Danbury Superior Court area LIST. Long term goals of this endeavor are:
- Assist the juvenile justice system in identifying services, supports and opportunities for court-involved children and youth in their communities.
- Raise local community awareness about the needs of children and youth served by the juvenile justice system.
- Generate additional resources for at-risk and court-involved children and youth.
- Make recommendations to improve the juvenile justice system.
- Encourage collaborative efforts among local stakeholders for assessing the physical, social, behavioral and educational needs of children and youth in their respective communities that lead to juvenile justice involvement and assist in the development of comprehensive plans to address such needs.
- Encourage the use of evidence-based approaches and programs to support positive youth development.
Newtown Prevention Council:
NYFS works closely with The Newtown Prevention Council which was founded in 1986. The mission of the Newtown Prevention Council is to build a coalition of community members working toward a safe and substance free town. For more information call visit www.newtownprevention.org.
