Mission Statement

Newtown Youth & Family Services, Inc. is a licensed, non-profit youth service bureau and mental health clinic dedicated to helping children & families achieve their highest potential.  We provide programs, services, activities, counseling, support groups and education throughout the Greater Newtown area regardless of ability to pay.

Special Events

Annual Independent Living Day:

April – Teenagers & families with children of all ages will visit the homes of Newtown senior citizens who have requested help with spring clean-up, window washing, gardening, & housekeeping chores.  The philosophy behind the tradition of young people helping seniors & others in need is simple – everyone benefits.  Breakfast & lunch will be served.  Community service hours (3 – 6) are available.  Anyone wishing to volunteer for Independent Living Day as a driver, organizer, or participant, please call NYFS.

21st Annual Talent Show:

May – Reed Intermediate School. Recognizing Newtown’s talented Youth. Call for audition scheduling & join us for the celebration!

Gail Smith & HD Bassett Awards:

May - Awards are presented annually to members of the community who exemplify the pursuit of excellence. The Gail Smith Award is presented each year to an adult, a youth, and a business or organization recognizing the recipient’s outstanding community contribution & leadership. The HD Bassett award named in honor of this former Board Member, recognizes the impact of volunteer commitment. 

4th Annual Newtown 5K Road Race & Kid’s Run (2009):

Labor Day Weekend – Dickenson Park. Runners from near & far will compete on a fully sanctioned 5K scenic course, followed by a Kid’s Fun Run for all ages. Other activities for kids, raffle prizes & food. One of the biggest family events in the area! www.newtownroadrace.com

24th Annual Holiday Festival (2009):

December – Historic Main Street. The site of an exceptional Craft Show, Victorian Tea, Nutcracker Ballet, Tour of Historic Homes with Holiday decorating by famous local interior designers, Festival of The Trees, & Children’s Activities with Santa.
