Students Dodge Balls for a Good Cause
March 19, 2009
The Newtown Bee -
Newtown Youth & Family Services' group Newtown Youth Creating AIDS Awareness for Peers held a fundraising dodgeball tournament at the Newtown Youth Academy on March 13.
Funds from the event will support the efforts of the AIDS walk in New Haven, to be held April 26. The event was run almost entirely by the high school students, under the direction of Newtown Youth & Family Services Outreach Manager Jessi Zeigler. Approximately 100 students created 20 teams who competed in five minute-long games of dodgeball. Student volunteers officiated and track the scoring during this three hour-long event.
The tournament brought in $727 through $25 team signup costs and a $1 donations from spectators.
The winning team was the Dragon Sorcerers (Dave Bray, Will Northrop, CJ Donahue, John Gouveia and Nick Nazier). Newtown Youth & Family Services will participate in the walk. Visit aidswalknewhaven.org or newtownyouthandfamilyservices.org for details.
