Adolescent Girls Group
This group helps girls learn to manage emotions, cope with stressful situations and improve self-esteem in a supportive environment along with peers experiencing the same stressors.

As an adolescent girl there are stressful situations that occur daily like bullying, peer pressure, substance use, conflict with friends, social media, body shaming, academic stressors and family conflict.

This group will use cognitive behavior strategies to teach girls how to cope with stressors and receive support from peers. The group will also encourage growth in self-esteem and positive self-image.

For girls in grades 8 through 12.

Group meets on Thursday at 3:00pm at NYFS.

Cost: Most private insurance plans are accepted, as are all HUSKY plans.

For more information please contact Jocelyn Jones at 203-270-4335.

Teen Talk
(for teens ages 13-17)

Learn and practice social skills, process emotions and receive feedback in a confidential, supportive environment.

We aim to promote the acquisition of social skills, identify emotions in oneself and others as well as become more flexible in social settings.

Therapeutic Social Skills Group for Teens
This social skills group is very different from the social recreational programs that NYFS already offers.
Group members will be expected to process their emotions and receive feedback from group members while learning about themselves and those they interact with socially.

Some of our topics include:

  • How to recognize feelings in others
  • How to know what you are feeling
  • How to deal with unexpected events and become more "flexible"
  • How to pick up on and read social cues
  • Learn how to engage in "small talk"
  • What type of clothing is appropriate to wear in different social situations

For teens ages 13-17.

Group meets on Friday at 4:00pm at NYFS.

Cost: Most private insurance plans are accepted, as are all HUSKY plans.
