Independent Living Day
NYFS’ 20th Annual Independent Living Day Has Been Re-Scheduled!
MORE DETAILS COMING SOON.
NYFS’ 20th annual Independent Living Day (ILD) event is a community wide effort to assist seniors, veterans and disabled residents to continue to live safe and independently in their homes.
As part of NYFS’ continuum of care, Independent Living Day allows seniors an increased chance of living longer, healthier and more productive lives by receiving assistance with basic home upkeep, FREE of charge. In particular, this event focuses on providing the following: mulch spreading, errands, organizing closets and garages, mowing, planting, clearing debris from walkways, discarding expired food and newspapers, changing floodlights, and other living areas to clear away dust and mold.
Volunteer Your Time!
Many senior citizens in Newtown face increased costs of living without the ability to make additional money. In order to live independently, they need assistance from their community.
Looking for Help?
NYFS provides services to any senior or disabled resident in Newtown but ILD focuses primarily on Nunnawauk Meadows, a restricted income over-sixty housing development. Over 40 individuals were served from this neighborhood last year. If you would like to receive assistance, please fill out and return the Registration Form below.
This annual event has become a much anticipated activity in Newtown and a proud tradition for NYFS. Not only does it help the senior community, but it promotes team building, family bonding, and community outreach.
