Independent Living Day
April 22, 2023
In collaboration with Nunnawauk Meadows, NYFS will provide volunteers to help residents with spring projects. Independent Living Day is a community wide effort to assist seniors, veterans and disabled residents to continue to live safely and independently in their homes.

There will be a light breakfast at 8:30AM.
As part of NYFS’ continuum of care, Independent Living Day gives seniors an increased chance of living longer, healthier and more productive lives by receiving assistance with basic home upkeep, FREE of charge. In particular, this event focuses on providing the following:
- Spreading Mulch
- Planting Flowers
- Raking Leaves

- Cleaning Patios & Porches
- Cleaning Patio Furniture
- Washing Windows
- Cleaning Refrigerators
- Discarding Expired Food & Newspapers
- And other Household Chores!
Volunteer Your Time!
Many senior citizens in Newtown face increased costs of living without the ability to make additional money. In order to live independently, they need assistance from their community. NYFS will be looking for volunteers for Independent Living Day.
If you would like to volunteer, please contact Madison McColl, Youth Coordinator at MMcColl@newtownyouthandfamilyservices.org or 203.270.4335.
This annual event has become a much anticipated activity in Newtown and a proud tradition for NYFS. Not only does it help the senior community, but it promotes team building, family bonding and community outreach.
