Independent Living Day

May 14, 2022

Rescheduled from May 7the due to weather.

All projects will be completed between 9:00-11:30 am.
Volunteer check-in/light breakfast begins at 8:30 am.

In collaboration with Nunnawauk Meadows, NYFS will provide volunteers to help residents with spring projects. Independent Living Day is a community wide effort to assist seniors, veterans and disabled residents to continue to live safe and independently in their homes.

As part of NYFS’ continuum of care, Independent Living Day allows seniors an increased chance of living longer, healthier and more productive lives by receiving assistance with basic home upkeep, FREE of charge. In particular, this event focuses on providing the following: mulch spreading, planting, raking, organizing closets and cabinets, clearing debris from walkways and patios, washing windows, cleaning refrigerators, discarding expired food and newspapers, and other household chores.

Volunteer Your Time!

Many senior citizens in Newtown face increased costs of living without the ability to make additional money. In order to live independently, they need assistance from their community. NYFS will be looking for volunteers for Independent Living Day. If you would like to volunteer please contact Madison McColl, MMcColl@newtownyouthandfamilyservices.org or 203-270-4335.
